Art and photography are in my blood. My father opened his art gallery when I was just 1 year old and it remained a staple of the Bardstown Rd "Artsy" area of Louisville for 35 years. He is an accomplished painter and nature photographer. While my skills lie in a different path from his I deeply respect him and am contunually learning from him. In college I worked for other photographers (a boudoir studio and wedding professionals), I always enjoyed the work but film never sang to me the way digital does. My first 3.1 megapixel camera changed everything for me; gone were the limitations of film, it didn't matter that I had black and white film loaded when the perfect sunset was out, I HAD DIGITAL! Photoshop opened my eyes to a whole new world of creativity, which had before seemed so limited to me.
I believe strongly in sharing what I know and assisting my fellow photographers to grow as artists. I have served on the board of directors and as Vice President for the Louisville Photographic Society.
Photography sings to my soul in a way that no other art medium does. As a result I think of myself as an artographer rather than a photographer. Photography is the medium thru which I express the world as I perceive it. As with any passion, I am never satisfied with my level of learning and am continually pushing myself to new levels. There is no such thing as "good enough" in art, a thing either is or it isn't. Photography for me either has one of two purposes; to express a concept (such as beauty) or to tell a story. The privilege of being able to tell someone else's story as in a wedding or thru portraiture is an honor I deeply respect.
